A Hippo Couple Made To Order

Hello everyone! I have not been blogging much because I've just returned from a 1-1/2 week trip to Europe. Anyway, just wanted to share a piece of work I did just before I went away. This hippo couple was commissioned by Daniel and Stella when they came by my stall at MAAD in early May. They wanted a pair of grey coloured hippos for their wedding in end May, and had specifically asked for a groom hippo in a black suit, and a bride hippo that was not dressed in white, but in a purple dress with a ruffle skirt and a black sash at the waist similar to the bride's evening gown. I got some generous pattern help from my crafty friend Ivy (of Iv Belongings http://www.ivbelongings.com) with the suit - we actually made a tux with coat tails for a bit more dramatic effect. As for the bride, I transformed the usual ballet dress into a bustier dress with a line of sparkling beads at the bust and hem for a bit of glam and a sassy black sash as requested by the bride. And here they are, happy and smiling, looking all ready for their first married dance! Congratulations Daniel and Stella!!!

Back Again!

Hello dear friends! First of all I must apologise for not the recent loss in updates here. I've been a wee bit lazy in going online for the past 2 months, plus I have been totally busy with a old/new hobby, plus I went away on holiday with my family! To my favourite country Japan! And went crazy shopping shopping shopping! (And now I'm back with a hole in my pocket :P) You can see some pictures of my trip in my flickr album here

So okay what was that old/new hobby that I was talking about? If you did see my flickr album, you would know that I'm talking about crochet! Why do I call it old/new? Well I learnt to crochet when I was 12, and since then I've made odd pieces once in a while, a pencil case here, a bible cover there. So it was not a really new technique that I had to learn. But a recent illness in Feb/Mar made me tired and stayed in bed most of the time, and suddenly my fingers were itching to do something while my tired and ill body was resting in bed, plus some influence from my good friend Betsy (of Knotty Bicsie).....and ta-da, I picked up my crochet needles again, added some more new supplies, and look what I've made!

Yes, crochet is becoming another addiction. And I've actually sold some of the dolls too! (the hippos and the dog and the rabbit and the unicorn are now happily adopted by new owners) A new adventure is definitely in the making. And if you are my jewelry fan, fret not, I have not given up on jewelry crafting. In fact most of my purchases in Japan were bead related, and I've got a bunch of designs in my head, so new things are coming your way! And I'm also trying to get my blogging act together again. On the prowl for new feature......so don't give up on this space! :)
