Pilgrimage to Chinatown

Over the weekend, our family trooped down to Chinatown to make our annual pilgrimage to the Chinese New Year night market. It has been our ritual for the past 2 years - every year before CNY we must make this trip to the fabulous night market that are stocked with all kinds of goodies for this festive occasion - sweets, lanterns, decorations, flowers, cakes and biscuits, not that we actually go there to shop for any particular festive essential, but just to immerse ourselves in the sights and sounds that give us that warm fuzzy festive feeling. It's crowded, hot and noisy, but it's a really fun experience every year!

Carrots, coconut slices, lotus seeds and root preserved in sugar.
Each has its own auspicious meaning!

Lanterns, lanterns everywhere!

Preserved duck meat,
with chinese sausages in the background.

Little lions a-dancing

And a newly opened shop that features all kinds
of Tintin collectibles - very cool!
